ఆర్కిడేసి (ఆంగ్లం: Orchid family ; లాటిన్ Orchidaceae) పుష్పించే మొక్కలలోని ఒక ప్రముఖమైన కుటుంబము. వీనిలో ఆస్టరేసి తర్వాత రెండవ అతి పెద్ద కుటుంబం ఇది. ఇందులో సుమారు 880 ప్రజాతులలో 21,950 నుండి 26,049 జాతుల మొక్కలున్నాయి.[1][2] ఇవి సుమారు 6–11% శాతం ఆవృత బీజాలు.[3]
ఈ కుటుంబంలో వెనిలా మరియు ఆర్కిస్ ప్రజాతులు అన్నింటికన్నా ప్రముఖంగా ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా పెంచబడుతున్నాయి. ఇవేకాక లక్షకు పైగా సంకర జాతులు కూడా ఉన్నాయి.
వీని యొక్క క్లిష్టమైన పరాగ సంపర్క విధానాన్ని ఛార్లెస్ డార్విన్ పరిశోధించి 1862 సంవత్సరంలో Fertilisation of Orchids అనే పుస్తకాన్ని రచించాడు.

వ్యుత్పత్తి [మార్చు]
ఆర్కిడేసి అనే పేరు గ్రీకు భాషలో "órkhis", అనగా అర్ధం "వృషణాలు" నుండి వచ్చింది. ఈ మొక్కల దుంప వేర్లు వృషణాల ఆకారంలో ఉంటాయి.[4][5] ఈ పదాన్ని 1845 లో జాన్ లిండ్లే ప్రవేశపెట్టాడు.[5]
