కాళహస్తి నాయకులు (కలహస్తి నాయకులు), వందవాసి రాజ్యాల పాలకుల రాజవంశం.[1][a] ఈ సమూహంలో సభ్యులలో డామర్ల చెన్నప నాయక ఉన్నారు, వీరి పేరు మీద చెన్నై నగరానికి పేరు పెట్టారు.[b][2][3] కలహస్తి నాయకుల మూలాలు ప్రస్తుత ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ పద్మనాయక యోధుల వంశాలలో ఉన్నాయి. ఈ నాయకులు విజయనగర సామ్రాజ్యం చివరి భాగానికి సామంతులుగా పని చేశారు, అప్పుడు వారు అరావిడు రాజవంశం ఆధీనంలో ఉన్నారు, వారి ప్రధాన కార్యాలయాలు చంద్రగిరి, వెల్లూరు ఉన్నాయి.

చెన్నప్ప నాయకుడు శ్రీరంగదేవరాయ ఆధ్వర్యంలో నాయకుడును, నమ్మకమైన సైన్యాధిపతిని. ఆయన వెంకటగిరి పాలకుడు వెలుగోటి కస్తూరి రంగ కుమార్తె, వెలుగోతి యాచమా నాయక చెల్లెలు అక్కమాంబను వివాహం చేసుకున్నాడు.[4] [5] [6] [7] [8] భారత రాష్ట్రమైన తమిళనాడు రాజధాని చెన్నై ఆయన గౌరవార్థం పేరు పెట్టారు.

డచ్ రికార్డులలో పిలువబడే దమర్ల వెంకటాద్రి లేదా వెంకటప్ప అని కూడా పిలువబడే ఆయన దమర్ల చెన్నప నాయక కుమారుడు. పెడా వెంకట రాయ పాలనలో విజయనగర సామ్రాజ్య పరిపాలనకు కూడా ఆయన బాధ్యత వహించారు, కలాహస్తి నాయకుడిగా ఉండి, వండివాష్ వరకు ఈ ప్రాంతాన్ని నేరుగా నియంత్రించారు.

విజయనగర సామ్రాజ్యానికి చెందిన పెడా వెంకట రాయ తరపున చర్చలు జరిపినప్పుడు మద్రాసు నగరానికి భూమి మంజూరును ఆయన అతని సోదరుడు బ్రిటిష్ వారికి అందించారు.[9]

దామర్ల అయ్యప్ప నాయక సోదరుడు దామర్ల అయ్యప్పనాయక మద్రాసు పశ్చిమాన ఉన్న పూనామల్లి నివసించి తన సోదరుడి కోసం కలహస్తి భూభాగాన్ని పరిపాలించాడు.

దామర్ల అంకభుపాల నాయక, దామర్ల వెంకటప్ప నాయకుల తమ్ముడు, దామర్ల అయ్యప్ప నాయక దామర్ల అంకబుపాల నాయక, డామర్ల చెన్నప నాయకుల కుమారుడు.[10][11] ఆయన కలాహస్తి అధిపతిగా ఉండేవాడు. [12][13] తెలుగు సాహిత్యం ప్రముఖ రచయిత అంకభూగాలకు తెలుగు కవిత్వం ఉషాపారిణయం అని పేరు, దీనిని ఆయన తన తండ్రి చెన్నప్ప నాయకునికి వ్రాసి అంకితం చేశారు, అంకభుపాలకు ఒకే కాండ పద్యం (16 గణాలు 64 మాత్రాలతో ఉన్నాయి, దీని నుండి అచ్చులను తగ్గించడం లేదా పొడిగించడం ద్వారా మీటర్లో 108 శ్లోకాలను పొందవచ్చు, పదం క్రమాన్ని మార్చడం ద్వారా పొందవచ్చు దామర్ల అంకభుపాల రాజ తెలుగు కవి [14][15][16][17]

రెండవ మైసూర్ యుద్ధ సమయంలో కలహస్తి నాయకులు హైదర్ అలీ పక్షాన నిలబడగా, వారి ఉత్తరపు ఉన్నతాధికారులు వెంకటగిరి రాజులు ఆర్కాట్, బ్రిటిష్ వారి పక్షాన నిలబడ్డారు.[20]
