జె. సి. డేనియల్ అవార్డు, అనేది మలయాళ సినిమాలోని అత్యున్నత పురస్కారం, దీనిని భారతదేశంలోని కేరళ ప్రభుత్వం స్థాపించింది. దీనిని కేరళ రాష్ట్ర చలచిత్ర అకాడమీ ప్రతి సంవత్సరం ప్రదానం చేస్తుంది, ఇది కేరళలోని సాంస్కృతిక వ్యవహారాల శాఖ కింద పనిచేస్తున్న లాభాపేక్షలేని స్వయంప్రతిపత్తి సంస్థ. 1992లో స్థాపించబడిన ఈ అవార్డు మలయాళ సినిమాకు వారి అద్భుతమైన కృషికి వ్యక్తులను గుర్తిస్తుంది.[1] గ్రహీతలను కేరళ రాష్ట్ర చలచిత్ర అకాడమీ సూచించిన జ్యూరీ ఎంపిక చేస్తుంది, దీనిని సాంస్కృతిక వ్యవహారాల శాఖ నియమిస్తుంది. "మలయాళ సినిమా పితామహుడు" గా పరిగణించబడే భారతీయ చిత్రనిర్మాత జె. సి. డేనియల్ సహకారాన్ని స్మరించుకోవడానికి కేరళ ప్రభుత్వం ఈ అవార్డును ప్రారంభించింది.[5] 1997 వరకు జె. సి. డేనియల్ అవార్డును సాంస్కృతిక వ్యవహారాల విభాగం నిర్వహించింది. 1998లో కేరళ ప్రభుత్వం కేరళ రాష్ట్ర చలనచిత్ర అకాడమీని ఏర్పాటు చేసింది, ఆ సంవత్సరం నుండి, అకాడమీ ఈ అవార్డుకు ఆతిథ్యం ఇచ్చింది.[2][6] 2002 వరకు ఈ పురస్కారంతో ₹ 50 వేల నగదు బహుమతి ఇవ్వబడింది. 2003లో, బహుమతి డబ్బు రెట్టింపు చేయబడింది, దానిని నవీకరించడానికి సాంకేతిక దిద్దుబాటులో భాగంగా, ఆ సంవత్సరం ఏ అవార్డును ప్రదానం చేయలేదు. నటుడు మధు 2004లో లక్ష రూపాయలుగా పెరిగిన బహుమతితో ఈ అవార్డును అందుకున్న మొదటి వ్యక్తి. 2016 నుండి, నగదు బహుమతి 5 లక్షలుగా ఉంది.

ఇది ప్రారంభమైనప్పటి నుండి 2023 వరకు, జె. సి. డేనియల్ అవార్డును 31 మంది వ్యక్తులకు ప్రదానం చేసారు. ఈ అవార్డును మొదటిసారిగా 1992లో చిత్ర పంపిణీదారుడు, నిర్మాత టి. ఇ. వాసుదేవన్ ప్రదానం చేసాడు. నటి అరన్ముల పొన్నమ్మ 2005లో ఈ గౌరవాన్ని అందుకున్న మొదటి మహిళ. 2011 అవార్డు గ్రహీత, నటుడు జోస్ ప్రకాష్, అవార్డు ప్రదానోత్సవానికి ముందే మరణించాడు. ఆయన తరపున ఆయన కుమారుడు ఈ అవార్డును స్వీకరించాడు. ఇటీవల 2024లో నటి శారద విజేతగా నిలిచింది.
