జీవిత చరిత్ర

పాల్డెన్ తొండుప్ నంగ్యాల్ 1923 మే 23న గాంగ్టక్‌లోని పార్క్ రిడ్జ్‌లోని రాయల్ ప్యాలెస్‌లో జన్మించాడు.[1]

ఆరేళ్ల వయసులో, అతను కలింపాంగ్‌లోని సెయింట్ జోసెఫ్ కాన్వెంట్‌లో విద్యార్థిగా చేరాడు.[2] కానీ మలేరియా దాడుల కారణంగా తన చదువును ఆపెయ్యాల్సి వచ్చింది.[3][4] ఎనిమిది సంవత్సరాల వయస్సు నుండి పదకొండు సంవత్సరాల వయస్సు వరకు అతను బౌద్ధ సన్యాసిగా నియమితుడయ్యే క్రమంలో తన మామ రింపోచే లాట్సున్ వద్ద చదువుకున్నాడు; తరువాత ఫోడాంగ్, రుంటెక్ మఠాల రెండింటికీ పునర్జన్మ పొందిన నాయకుడిగా గుర్తింపు పొందాడు.[5] తరువాత అతను డార్జిలింగ్‌లోని సెయింట్ జోసెఫ్ కళాశాలలో తన చదువును కొనసాగించాడు. చివరికి 1941లో సిమ్లాలోని బిషప్ కాటన్ స్కూల్ నుండి పట్టభద్రుడయ్యాడు.[6] 1941లో అతని అన్నయ్య, భారత వైమానిక దళం సభ్యుడు, క్రౌన్ ప్రిన్స్ విమాన ప్రమాదంలో మరణించినప్పుడు కేంబ్రిడ్జ్‌లో సైన్స్ అధ్యయనం చేయాలనే అతని ప్రణాళికలు ఆగిపోయాయి.[7] అతను డెహ్రాడూన్ ICS క్యాంప్‌లో ఇండియన్ సివిల్ సర్వీస్ కోసం శిక్షణ పొందాడు.[8]

నాంగ్యాల్ తన తండ్రి, 11వ చోగ్యాల్ అయిన సర్ తాషి నాంగ్యాల్ కు అంతర్గత వ్యవహారాల సలహాదారుగా పనిచేశాడు. 1949లో స్వాతంత్ర్యం తర్వాత భారతదేశంతో సిక్కిం సంబంధాన్ని స్థాపించిన చర్చల బృందానికి నాయకత్వం వహించాడు.[9] అతను 1950లో లాసాలోని ఒక ముఖ్యమైన టిబెటన్ కుటుంబానికి చెందిన సామ్యో కుషో సంగిడేకిని పెళ్ళి చేసుకున్నాడు.[10] వారికి ఇద్దరు కుమారులు, ఒక కుమార్తె ఉన్నారు. సామ్యో కుషో సంగిడేకి 1957 లో మరణించింది.[11]

సిక్కిం రాజు, రాణి, 1966

1963లో, నామ్‌గ్యాల్ న్యూయార్క్ నగరానికి చెందిన 22 ఏళ్ల అమెరికన్ సోషలైట్ హోప్ కుక్‌ను వివాహం చేసుకున్నాడు; ఆమె న్యూయార్క్ రాష్ట్రం, యోన్కర్స్‌లోని సారా లారెన్స్ కళాశాల నుండి పట్టభద్రురాలైంది.[12][13] ఈ వివాహంతో ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా మీడియా దృష్టి సిక్కింపై పడింది. ఇద్దరు పిల్లలు ఉన్న ఈ జంట 1980లో విడాకులు తీసుకున్నారు.[14]

నాంగ్యాల్ వివాహం జరిగిన కొద్దికాలానికే, అతని తండ్రి మరణించాడు. 1965లో జ్యోతిషశాస్త్రపరంగా అనుకూలమైన తేదీన కొత్త చోగ్యాల్‌గా అతనికి పట్టాభిషేకం జరిగింది.[15] 1975లో సిక్కిం భారతదేశపు రాష్ట్రంగా మారాలని సిక్కిం ప్రధాన మంత్రి భారత పార్లమెంటుకు విజ్ఞప్తి చేశాడు.

ఆ సంవత్సరం ఏప్రిల్‌లో, భారత సైన్యం గాంగ్‌టాక్ నగరాన్ని స్వాధీనం చేసుకుని, చోగ్యాల్ ప్యాలెస్ గార్డులను నిరాయుధులను చేసింది. 1975 ఏప్రిల్ 14న సిక్కిం రాజ్యంలో రాచరికాన్ని రద్దు చేయడంపై ప్రజాభిప్రాయ సేకరణ జరిగింది. సిక్కిం ప్రజలు భారత రాష్ట్ర హోదా, గాంగ్‌టాక్‌లోని తన ప్యాలెస్‌లో భారత సైన్యం కాపలాలో ఉన్న వారి చోగ్యాల్ లేదా పాలకుడైన పాల్డెన్ తొండుప్ నాంగ్యాల్‌ను బహిష్కరించాలని 59,637 మంది, దానికి వ్యతిరేకంగా 1,496 మంది ఓటు వేశారు.[16]

1976 నవంబరులో , నమ్‌గ్యాల్ బార్బిట్యురేట్‌లను సేవించి ఆత్మహత్యకు ప్రయత్నించాడని వార్తలు వచ్చాయి. అతన్ని విమానంలో IPGMER అండ్ SSKM ఆసుపత్రికి తరలించారు.[17] SSKM ఆసుపత్రిలో అనస్థీషియా, శ్వాసకోశ సంరక్షణ విభాగం అధిపతి ప్రొఫెసర్ డాక్టర్ అమల్ కుమార్ బోస్ అతనికి విజయవంతంగా చికిత్స చేసాడు.[18]

నాంగ్యాల్ 1982 జనవరి 29న అమెరికాలోని న్యూయార్క్ నగరంలోని మెమోరియల్ స్లోన్ కెట్టరింగ్ క్యాన్సర్ సెంటర్‌లో క్యాన్సర్‌తో మరణించాడు. మరణించే సమయానికి ఆయన వయస్సు 58 సంవత్సరాలు.[19][20] ఆయన మరణించిన తర్వాత, రాష్ట్ర శాసనసభలోని 31 మంది సభ్యులు గౌరవ సూచకంగా చోగ్యాల్‌కు ఖడాలను సమర్పించారు.

నాంగ్యాల్ ఒక అమెచ్యూర్ రేడియో ఆపరేటర్, కాల్-సైన్ AC3PT. ఎయిర్‌వేవ్స్‌లో బాగా పేరున్న వ్యక్తి.[21][22][23][24] అంతర్జాతీయ కాల్‌బుక్ అతని చిరునామాను ఇలా జాబితా చేసింది: PT నాంగ్యాల్, ది ప్యాలెస్, గాంగ్‌టాక్, సిక్కిం.[25]

భారతీయ చిత్రనిర్మాత సత్యజిత్ రే తీసిన <i id="mwsw">సిక్కిం</i> (1971) అనే డాక్యుమెంటరీకి ఆయన ఆర్థిక సహాయం చేశాడు.[26]

వారసత్వం

పొరుగు దేశాలైన నేపాల్, భూటాన్, భారతదేశం కంటే అక్షరాస్యత రేటు, తలసరి ఆదాయం రెండింతలు ఎక్కువగా ఉన్న "ఆదర్శ ఆసియా రాజ్యం"గా నాంగ్యాల్, సిక్కింను రూపుదిద్దాడు.[27]

అతని మొదటి కుమారుడు, మాజీ యువరాజు టెన్సింగ్ కుంజాంగ్ జిగ్మే నాంగ్యాల్, 1978లో కారు ప్రమాదంలో మరణించాడు.[28] అతని మొదటి సంబంధంలో పుట్టిన రెండవ కుమారుడు, టోబ్గ్యాల్ వాంగ్చుక్ టెన్జింగ్ నాంగ్యాల్, 13వ చోగ్యాల్ గా పేరు పొందాడు. కానీ ఆ పదవికి ఎటువంటి అధికారమూ లేదు.

రెండవ సంబంధం వలన కలిగిన కుమారుడు పాల్డెన్ గ్యుర్మెడ్ నాంగ్యాల్ తొమ్మిదేళ్ల వయసులో తన తల్లి, సోదరితో కలిసి న్యూయార్క్‌ వెళ్ళి, అక్కడ డాల్టన్ స్కూల్‌లో చదువుకున్నాడు. అతను JP మోర్గాన్ చేజ్‌లో ఉద్యోగంలో చేరి, మేనేజింగ్ డైరెక్టరయ్యాడు. సహోద్యోగిపై లైంగిక వేధింపుల సంఘటనతో 2003 లో అతన్ని తొలగించారు.[29]
