The Mirasi in Indian Punjab are [[Muslim]], [[Hindu]] and [[Sikh]]. The community is divided into three groups, the Balmiki, [[Domba|Dom]] and Muslim Mirasi. The Balmiki Mirasi consist of a number of [[gotra]]s, and marriage is forbidden within the gotra. While the Muslim Mirasi marry among close kin. The Mirasis of Punjab are a [[Punjabi language|Punjabi]] speaking community, although most speak and understand Urdu. They consist of a number sub-groups, the main ones being the Rai Mirasi, Mir Mirasi, Rababis, Kamachis, Dhadi, Kumachi, Kulawant and Mir Mang. The Dhadi and Rababi are Sikh, while the other groups are [[Hindu]] and [[Muslim]]. కొన్ని మిరాసి సమూహాలు హిందూ కుల వ్యవస్థలో 'తక్కువ కులం'కి చెందినవి. వారి మతం ముస్లిం గా అంగీకరించబడింది. 13 వ శతాబ్దపు సూఫీ కవి అమీరు ఖుస్రో ఆధ్వర్యంలో వారు ఇస్లాం మతంలో చేరడానికి అంగీకరించారని భావిస్తున్నారు. మిరాసి అనే పదం అరబికు పదం మిరాస్ (ميراث) నుండి వచ్చింది. దీని అర్థం వారసత్వం, సంప్రదాయ వారసత్వం.[1] ఉత్తర భారత మిరాసీలను ఐదు ప్రధాన ఉప సమూహాలుగా విభజించారు: అబ్బాలు, పోస్లా, బెటు, కట్టు, కాలేటు.[2]ఆచారాలలో వారు మరొక సమాజమైన ముస్లిం రాయభటు మాదిరిగానే ఉంటారు. మిరాసికి సంబంధించిన కింగ్హారియాలను ఒకప్పుడు సంగీతకారులు, వినోదకారులుగా పనిచేసేవారు.[3]

వారు కంజీరా వాయిద్యం వాయిస్తూ పఖ్వాజులో పాల్గొంటారు కనుక వారిని పఖ్వాజీ అని కూడా పిలుస్తారు. మిరసీలను వారి పోషకుల వంశవృక్షాలను నిర్వహించారు. మిరాసీలు తరచూ వివాహాల చర్చలలో పాల్గొంటారు. వంశావళి శాస్త్రవేత్తలుగా, మిరాసిని నాసాబు ఖ్వాను (కుటుంబ వృక్షం నిర్వాహకులు) అని కూడా పిలుస్తారు.[1] [4] మిరాసి ఉత్తర భారతదేశం అంతటా కనిపిస్తారు. వారు సాంప్రదాయకంగా బల్లాడు గాయకులుగా తరచూ వివాహాలలో పాడేవారు. కాగితపు పువ్వుల తయారీతో వారికి సమాజానికి అనుసంధానం జరిగింది. వారు పంజాబు గ్రామీణ ప్రాంతంలో ఉత్సవాలలో ప్రదర్శనలు ఇవ్వడం చూడవచ్చు. పట్టణ సమాజంగా పట్టణాల సరిహద్దులలో చాలా మంది ఇప్పుడు కూలీ కార్మికులుగా పనిచేస్తున్నారు. కొంతమంది మిరాసీలి పంజాబు నుండి పొరుగు రాజ్యాలకు వలస వచ్చారు: రాజస్థాను, బీహారు, గుజరాతు, హర్యానా, పశ్చిమ ఉత్తర ప్రదేశు.[3]

ఉత్తర ప్రదేశు

పశ్చిమ ఉత్తర ప్రదేశులో సమాజంలో సమైఖ్యత ఉంది. ఇది ప్రధానంగా మీరటు, ముజఫరు నగరు, బులంద్షహరు జిల్లాల్లో కనిపిస్తుంది. చారిత్రాత్మకంగా మిరాసి రెబారి వర్గానికి చెందిన వంశావళి శాస్త్రవేత్తలు పనిచేసేవారు. రెబారీలతో వారు రాజస్థాను నుండి వచ్చారు. వారికి " ముఖియా " అనే సాంప్రదాయ కుల మండలి ఉంది. కుల మండలి సమాజ నియమాలను ఉల్లంఘించేవారిని శిక్షించడం, వివాదాలను పరిష్కరించడం, అనైతిక కార్యకలాపాలను నిరోధించడం వంటి కార్యక్రమాలను నిర్వహించేవారు. వారు సున్నీ ముస్లింలు అయినప్పటికీ సిక్కు గురువులు, హిందూ దేవుళ్ళను కూడా ఆరాధిస్తారు. మిరాసి ప్రామాణిక ఉర్దూ మాట్లాడుతారు. అయినప్పటికీ చాలా మంది హిందీ భాష సంబంధిత వివిధ మాండలికాలను మాట్లాడగలరు. లక్నోకు చెందిన నక్వలు ప్రజలు ఉత్తర ప్రదేశు మిరాసిల ముఖ్యమైన ఉప సమూహంగా ఉంది.[5]

బీహారు

16 వ శతాబ్దంలో మిరాసీలు ఉత్తర ప్రదేశు నుండి బీహారుకు వచ్చినట్లు పేర్కొనబడింది. బీహారులోని చాలా మంది జమీందార్ల ఆస్థానంలో సంగీతకారులు ఉన్నారు. జమీందారీ వ్యవస్థను రద్దు చేయడంతో మిరాసీలు వ్యవసాయ వృత్తిని స్వీకరించారు. వివాహాలు, అంత్యక్రియలు వంటి ప్రత్యేక సందర్భాలలో పాటలు పాడటానికి కొంతమందిని ఇప్పటికీ వీరిని పిలుస్తారు. చాలా మంది మిరాసిలు ఇప్పుడు షియా, మొహరం ఉత్సవాలలో ముఖ్యమైన పాత్ర పోషిస్తున్నారు. వీరు ప్రధానంగా భాగల్పూరు, భోజ్పూరు, గయా, ముంగేరు, నలంద, పాట్నా జిల్లాలలో కనిపిస్తారు. మిరాసీ తమలో తాము మగధీ భాషలో సంభాషిస్తారు. అలాగే బయటి వ్యక్తులతో ఉర్దూలో సంభాషిస్తారు. ఇతర మిరాసి వర్గాల మాదిరిగా కాకుండా బీహారు మిరాసి ఎప్పుడూ వంశావళి శాస్త్రవేత్తలుగా పనిచేయలేదు. పమారియా సమాజం బీహారు మిరాసి ప్రధాన ఉపవిభాగంగా ఉన్నారు.[6]

ఢిల్లీ

ఢిల్లీలోని మిరాసి సంతతి కులమని పేర్కొన్నారు. వీరు సీలాంపూరు, షాహదారా, బవానా, నరేలా ప్రాంతాలలో కనిపిస్తారు. వారు ఖాను, బొబ్లా, పోస్లా, మల్లికు అనే ఇంటిపేర్లను కలిగి ఉన్నారు. ఢిల్లీ మిరాసి గాయకులు, సంగీతకారులు, ఢిల్లీలోని మొఘలు రాజసంభతో సంబంధం కలిగి ఉన్నారు. చాలా మంది మిరాసి ఖండన్లు (కుటుంబాలు) చక్రవర్తుల ఆస్థానంలో గొప్ప ఖ్యాతిని పొందారు. మరికొందరు నిజాముద్దీను వంటి వివిధ సూఫీ పుణ్యక్షేత్రాలలో భక్తి గాయకులు (కవ్వాలులు). కొందరు రాగ్ని గాయకులు వంటి సాంగిగా ఉండేవారు. స్వాతంత్ర్య సమయంలో ఢిల్లీలోని ముస్లిం వర్గాలు చాలా మంది సభ్యులు పాకిస్తానుకు వలస వెళ్ళారు. కూరగాయలు అమ్మడం, గొడుగులను మరమ్మత్తు చేయడం వంటి చిన్న వ్యాపారాలలో చాలా మంది ఇప్పుడు పాల్గొంటున్నారు.[7]

రాజస్థాను

రాజస్థానుకు చెందిన మిరాసి బికానెరు, జోధ్‌పూరు, నాగౌరు, చిత్తోరుగడు, అజ్మీరు, హనుమానుగడు, శ్రీగంగనగరు, చురు, సికారు, జైసల్మేరు జిల్లాలలో కనిపిస్తారు. వారు ఎనిమిది శతాబ్దాల క్రితం ఇస్లాం మతంలోకి మారినట్లు చెబుతారు. వాస్తవానికి వారు హిందూ ధాడీ కులానికి చెందినవారు. మిరాసీలో సిన్వాలు, మాలియా, బాగర్వా, ఫోగా, చుమాడు, ధావ్సీ, చుంకరు, బవారా, అనేవి చాలా గోత్రాలు ఉన్నాయి. వారి సాంప్రదాయ వృత్తులు పాడటం, వివాహాలలో డ్రంలు వాయించడం. చాలామంది ఇప్పుడు కౌలు రైతులు. వారు రాజస్థానీ బికనేరి మాండలికం మాట్లాడతారు.[8]

హర్యానా

హర్యానాకు చెందిన మిరాసిని డోమ్ అని కూడా పిలుస్తారు. కాని ఈ డోం కులానికి ముస్లింల పోస్లా (వేగ్వా)తో సంబంధం లేదు. వీరు రాజసభలో సేవలుచేసిన కారణంగా చాలా గౌరవప్రదంగా భావించబడ్డారు. కాని కొంతకాలం వారు సంగీతకారులు లేదా హిందూ కులాల డోంలతో తప్పుగా కలిపారు. ఇవి ప్రధానంగా మేవాటు, రోహ్తకు, ఫరీదాబాదు, హిస్సారు, కర్నాలు, కురుక్షేత్ర, సోనేపటు, మహేందర్గడు జిల్లాలలో కనిపిస్తాయి. ఈ సమాజం హర్యన్వి భాషలో సంభాషిస్తారు. చాలామంది ఉర్దూ కూడా మాట్లాడగలరు. వారు ప్రధానంగా భూమిలేని సమాజంగా సాంప్రదాయకంగా గాయకులు, వినోదకారులుగా, అలాగే జాటు కమ్యూనిటీ వంశావళి శాస్త్రవేత్తలుగా పనిచేస్తున్నారు. చాలామంది ఇప్పుడు వారి సాంప్రదాయ వృత్తిని విడిచిపెట్టి కూలీ కార్మికులుగా పనిచేస్తున్నారు. వారు చాలా అట్టడుగు సమాజం. ఈ సంఘం ఎండోగామసు, భూస్వామ్యాన్ని ఆచరిస్తూ అనేక వంశాలను కలిగి ఉంటుంది. వీటిలో భటు, బోర్డా, సాన్పు, నింబా, పోస్లా, సియోలు ప్రధానమైనవిగా ఉన్నాయి. వీటిలో ప్రతి ఒక్కటి సమాన స్థితి, వివాహం సంబంధాలతో అనుసంధానితమై ఉంది.[9]

Major sub-groups

The Rai Mirasi claim to have converted from the Rai Bhat caste. They claim to have been Brahmin, and continued to compose and recite kabits after their conversion. The community are strictly endogamous, and are Shia Muslims.

The Mir Mirasi are said to have gotten their name on account of the fact that they were the wealthy inhabitants of the city of Ludhiana. They had a lot of villages Their sub-division, the Dhadi are Sikh, and their heredity occupation was singing praises of Sikh heroes.[1]

The Kumachi Mirasi are the Brahmin community. According to their traditions, the community were Brahmins who converted to Islam on the condition that they would remain the genealogists of the Brahmin.

The Rababi are Mirasis who play a musical instrument known as a rabab. They trace their descent from Bhai Mardana, a Mirasi who used to play the rabab as an accompaniment to Guru Nanak. The Rababi are Sikh.

The Posla are Muslim Mirasis and consist of four sub-divisions, the Ghorian, Kharia, Malhar and Gurbal or veghwa, and were the heredity genealogists of the Sayyidas Arabic poslas were themselves having noble chain . Related to the Posla are the veghwa. poslas were also victim of dancing queens who left them as beggar and they adopted petty jobs and almost lost there noble Arabic past.

The Naqqal Mirasis were a community of mimics, and were found mainly in Ludhiana. They were associated with the courts of the Mughal emperors, were they employed as entertainers. The community is strictly endogamous, and marry close kin.

Other sub-groups include the Kulawant, the genealogists of the Rajputs, Mir Mangs, who were a community of beggars, Naqarchi who played a musical instrument known as a naqqara, the Naqib and Mirzada.[10]

The Mirasi of Pakistani Punjab

In Pakistani Punjab, the Mirasi are now mainly a community who participate in aashura activities recites nohas (mersaya), also they are good entertainers having provided many of the country's singers theater artists. Most Mirasi are now bilingual, speaking both Urdu and Punjabi. They are found throughout Punjab, and most villages contain their settlements.[11] Some 'mirasis' in Northern and Central Punjab now call themselves as 'Khans.[12]
