బెంగాలీ (బెంగాలీ বাঙ্গালী, বাঙালি , దక్షిణ ఆసియా బెంగాల్ ప్రాంతం నుండి ఉద్భవించి సాంస్కృతికంగా అనుబంధించబడిన ఇండో-ఆర్యన్ జాతి భాషా సమూహం. .[47][48] ప్రస్తుత జనాభా సార్వభౌమ దేశం బంగ్లాదేశ్, పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్, త్రిపుర, అస్సాం బరాక్ లోయ, అండమాన్ & నికోబార్ దీవులు, మేఘాలయ, మణిపూర్, జార్ఖండ్ కొన్ని ప్రాంతాల మధ్య విభజించబడింది.[49] ఇండో-ఆర్యన్ భాషా కుటుంబానికి చెందిన శాస్త్రీయ భాష అయిన బెంగాలీని చాలా మంది మాట్లాడతారు.

హాన్ చైనీయులు, అరబ్బుల తరువాత బెంగాలీలు ప్రపంచంలో మూడవ అతిపెద్ద జాతి సమూహం.[50] వారు ఇండో-యూరోపియన్ భాషా కుటుంబం అతిపెద్ద జాతి సమూహం, దక్షిణ ఆసియాలో అతిపెద్ద జాతి సమూహం. బంగ్లాదేశ్, భారత రాష్ట్రాలు పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్, త్రిపుర, మణిపూర్, అస్సాం బరాక్ లోయతో పాటు, బెంగాలీ-మెజారిటీ జనాభా భారతదేశంలోని కేంద్రపాలిత ప్రాంతమైన అండమాన్, నికోబార్ దీవులలో కూడా నివసిస్తున్నారు, అరుణాచల్ ప్రదేశ్, ఢిల్లీ, ఒడిశా, ఛత్తీస్గఢ్, జార్ఖండ్, మిజోరం, నాగాలాండ్, ఉత్తరాఖండ్‌తో పాటు నేపాల్‌లోని ప్రావిన్స్ నెం. 1లో కూడా గణనీయమైన జనాభా ఉంది. [51][52] ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా ఉన్న బెంగాలీ ప్రవాసులు మధ్యప్రాచ్యం, పాకిస్తాన్, మయన్మార్ , యునైటెడ్ కింగ్‌డమ్ , యునైటెడ్ స్టేట్స్, మలేషియా, ఇటలీ, మాల్దీవులు, కెనడా, ఆస్ట్రేలియా, జపాన్, దక్షిణ కొరియా, సింగపూర్‌లలో సుస్థిరమైన సంఘాలను కలిగి ఉన్నారు.

బెంగాలీలు మతపరమైన అనుబంధాలు, ఆచారాల పరంగా విభిన్న సమూహం. దాదాపు 70% మంది ఇస్లాం మతాన్ని అనుసరిస్తారు , వీరిలో పెద్ద సంఖ్యలో హిందువులు, గణనీయమైన సంఖ్యలో క్రైస్తవులు, బౌద్ధులు ఉన్నారు. ప్రధానంగా బంగ్లాదేశ్‌లో నివసించే బెంగాలీ ముస్లింలు , ప్రధానంగా సున్నీ తెగకు చెందినవారు. ప్రధానంగా పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్, త్రిపుర, అస్సాంలోని బరాక్ వ్యాలీ, జార్ఖండ్, అండమాన్ నికోబార్ దీవులలో నివసించే బెంగాలీ హిందువులు , ప్రాంతీయ దేవతలను పూజించడంతో పాటు, సాధారణంగా శాక్తేయం లేదా వైష్ణవాన్ని అనుసరిస్తారు.[53][54][55]
