విఠల్ మహదేవ్ తార్కుండే (3 జూలై 1909 – 22 మార్చి 2004), ప్రముఖ భారతీయ న్యాయవాది, పౌరహక్కుల ఉద్యమకారుడు, మానవవాద నేత. "భారతీయ పౌరహక్కుల ఉద్యమ పితామహుని"గా ఆయన పేరొందారు. బొంబాయి హైకోర్టులో న్యాయవాదిగా ఆయన పనిచేసి పదవీ విరమణ పొందారు.[1][2] భారత సర్వోన్నత న్యాయస్థానం ఆయనను బొంబాయి ఉన్నత న్యాయస్థానంలో "నిస్సందేహంగా 1957 చాగ్లా అనంతర కాలానికి చెందిన అత్యంత విశిష్టమైన న్యాయమూర్తి" అని ప్రశంసించింది.[3]
తొలినాళ్ళ జీవితం, విద్యాభ్యాసం
విఠల్ మహదేవ్ తార్కుండే మహారాష్ట్రలోని పుణె జిల్లాకు చెందిన సస్వాద్ లో జూలై 3, 1909న జన్మించారు. సస్వాద్ కు చెందిన ప్రముఖ న్యాయవాది, సామాజిక సంస్కర్త అయిన మహదేవ్ రాజారాం తార్కుండేకు 5గురిలో రెండవ సంతానంగా ఆయన జన్మించారు.
