Windows XP/Server 2003 Family
[మార్చు]Capability to render Indian language text is not installed by default. One has to install it from the control panel. You may require Windows installation disc or obtain a file from the e-telugu helpcenter page.
Open Control Panel Open Regional and Language Options Switch to Languages tab Select Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages option Click OK
Fonts
[మార్చు]Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 family of operating systems come with a font called Gautami by default. A nice alternative font named Pothana is available for free from http://www.kavya-nandanam.com/dload.htm
Browser
[మార్చు]Internet Explorer browser that comes bundled with the operating system, Mozilla and Firefox can render Indian language text properly.
Firefox Extensions
[మార్చు]A great extension named Padma adds the ability to convert RTS (telugu written using english alphabet), ISCII, ITRANS and other encodings used by online telugu newspapers to unicode. Padma works in Thunderbird (e-mail client) as well. So, you can type your mail in RTS or ITRANS, convert it to unicode before sending the mail.

Keyboard
[మార్చు]Windows XP and above come with an Inscript layout for Telugu.
- Enable Telugu Inscript layout
Open Control Panel Open Regional and Language Options Switch to Languages tab Click Details in Text Services and Input Languages area In Text Services and Input Languages dialog, click Add In Add Input Languages dialog, choose Telugu in the Input Language list If you don't find Telugu in this list (??) you can't type telugu letters using Pothana2000(:-) Choose Telugu in the Keyboard Layout/IME list Click OK to add the Input langauge Click OK to close Text Services and Input Languages dialog Click OK to close Regional and Language Options dialog
You should able to see a keyboard indicator near the system tray. You can choose Telugu from it to start typing in Telugu.
Inscript
[మార్చు]- Inscript: This is an inbuilt feature of the operating System. When you select Inscript, your keyboard is automatically configured to write Telugu as you type. For exmple.. if you press the key -'k' -telugu letter 'ka' is written on the screen. This is the extension of the conventional Telugu Type writer keyboard.
