షహబుద్దీన్ యాకూబ్ ఖురేషీ (జననం 1947 జూన్ 11) భారతదేశపు 17 వ ప్రధాన ఎన్నికల కమిషనర్ (సిఇసి) గా పనిచేసిన ప్రభుత్వ అధికారి.[2][3] నవీన్ చావ్లా తరువాత 2010 జూలై 30 న అతను సిఇసిగా నియమితుడయ్యాడు.

యువజన వ్యవహారాలు క్రీడల మంత్రిత్వ శాఖలో కార్యదర్శిగా కూడా పనిచేశారు. [4]

అతను 1971 బ్యాచ్‌కి చెందిన హర్యానా కేడర్‌ IAS అధికారి. అతను కమ్యూనికేషన్స్, సోషల్ మార్కెటింగ్‌లో PhD చేసాడు.[5]

ఖురేషీ భారతదేశ సిఇసి అయిన మొదటి ముస్లిం. 2012 జూన్ 10 న పదవీ విరమణ చేసాడు.[6]

అతను 'యాన్ అన్‌డాక్యుమెంటెడ్ వండర్ - ది మేకింగ్ ఆఫ్ ది గ్రేట్ ఇండియన్ ఎలక్షన్' అనే పుస్తకాన్ని రచించాడు.[7] భారత ఎన్నికల ప్రక్రియ లోని అపారతను, సంక్లిష్టతనూ వివరించే పుస్తకం.[8][9] ఓల్డ్ ఢిల్లీ- లివింగ్ ట్రెడిషన్స్ అనే పుస్తకాన్ని రచించాడు.[10][11] అతని తాజా పుస్తకం ది పాపులేషన్ మిత్‌లో జనాభా నిష్పత్తిలో వచ్చే మార్పు గురించి మెజారిటీ మతస్తులలో భయాలను రేకెత్తించేలా మితవాద పార్టీలు చేసే వక్రీకరణ వలన 'ముస్లిం వృద్ధి రేటు' పట్ల అపోహలు ఎలా వచ్చాయో వెల్లడిస్తుంది.[12] ఈ పుస్తకం ఇస్లాం గురించి, కుటుంబ నియంత్రణ గురించిన అపోహలను ఛేదించింది.[13]

అతను 2011 లోను మళ్లీ 2012 లోనూ ది ఇండియన్ ఎక్స్‌ప్రెస్ వారి 100 మంది అత్యంత శక్తివంతమైన భారతీయుల జాబితాలో స్థానం సంపాదించాడు.[14][15]

ఢిల్లీ విశ్వవిద్యాలయంలోని క్లస్టర్ ఇన్నోవేషన్ సెంటర్‌లో బోధించడం, మార్గదర్శకత్వం చేయడం ద్వారా కేంద్రంలో గౌరవ ఆచార్యుని హోదాలో తన అభిరుచులను కొనసాగిస్తున్నాడు.[16] అతను అంతర్జాతీయ ఎన్నికల సలహా మండలిలో సభ్యుడు కూడా.

టెలివిజన్ ఛానెల్ CNN-IBN లో డెవిల్స్ అడ్వకేట్ కార్యక్రమంలో కరణ్ థాపర్ స్పందిస్తూ, అన్నా హజారే ప్రతిపాదించిన రీకాల్ అండ్ రిజెక్ట్ రైట్ ఆలోచన భారతదేశంలో సాధ్యం కాదని వ్యతిరేకించాడు.[17] అయితే, కొంతకాలం తర్వాత ఒక టీవీ ఇంటర్వ్యూలో అతను తిరస్కరించే హక్కును పరిగణించవచ్చని చెప్పాడు.[18]

డాక్టర్ SY ఖురేషీకి 2016 మేలో నేషనల్ ఇండియన్ స్టూడెంట్స్ యూనియన్ UK లో గౌరవ ఫెలోషిప్ లభించింది. ఈ ఫెలోషిప్ తొలి గ్రహీతలైన షబానా అజ్మీ, జావేద్ అక్తర్‌ల సరసన చేరాడు.[19]

2019 లో ప్రచురించబడిన "ది గ్రేట్ మార్చ్ ఆఫ్ డెమోక్రసీ: సెవెన్ డికేడ్స్ ఆఫ్ ఇండియాస్ ఎలక్షన్" పుస్తకానికి ఖూరేషీ సంపాదకత్వం వహించాడు.[20]
