వులార్ సరస్సు జమ్మూ కాశ్మీర్‌లోని బండిపోరా జిల్లాలో ఉంది. ఇది ఆసియాలో గల అతిపెద్ద మంచినీటి సరస్సులలో ఒకటిగా ప్రసిద్ధి చెందింది. దీంట్లోకి జీలం నది ద్వారా నీరు వచ్చి చేరుతుంది. సరస్సు పరిమాణం కాలానుగుణంగా 30 నుండి 189 చదరపు కిలోమీటర్ల వరకు మారుతూ ఉంటుంది.[2][3]

ప్రాచీన కాలంలో, వులార్ సరస్సును మహాపద్మసర్ (సంస్కృతం: महापद्मसरः) అని కూడా పిలిచేవారు.[4][5]

ప్రత్యేకత,సమస్యలు[మార్చు]

ఈ సరస్సు రామ్‌సర్ సైట్ లో పేర్కొనబడిన 46 భారతీయ చిత్తడి నేలలలో ఒకటిగా ప్రసిద్ధి చెందింది. సరస్సు పరివాహక ప్రాంతాలను వ్యవసాయ భూములుగా మార్చడం, ఎరువులు, జంతువుల వ్యర్థాలు వంటి వాటి నుండి ఏర్పడే కాలుష్యం వలన ఇది పర్యావరణ సమస్యను ఎదుర్కొంటుంది.[6]

అభివృద్ధి[మార్చు]

కేరళ టూరిజం, జమ్మూ కాశ్మీర్ టూరిజం సహకారంతో భారత ప్రభుత్వ పర్యాటక శాఖ ద్వారా బోటింగ్, వాటర్ స్పోర్ట్స్ , వాటర్ స్కీయింగ్ వంటి వాటిని ప్రారంభించింది. సెప్టెంబర్ 2011 లో ఈ సరస్సు అభివృద్ధి కార్యక్రమాలు మొదలయ్యాయి.[7]
