Comment This template contains one or more optional parameters: see the talk page for details.

This template employs some extremely complicated and esoteric features of template syntax. Please do not attempt to alter it unless you are certain that you understand the setup and are prepared to repair any consequent collateral damage if the results are unexpected. Any experiments should be conducted via the template sandbox or your user space.

Usage[మార్చు]

{{Infobox Australian place}} is the standard infobox used in Australian articles. Australian articles using {{Infobox settlement}} should be converted to use this infobox.

To use this template[మార్చు]

  1. Copy the relevant blank template from the Blank Infobox Template Page into the beginning of your document, remembering to put the code at the very top of the article and the first word of the article on the very next line.
  2. Enter values for the fields as outlined in the table below. Fields left blank will automatically be hidden.
  3. Preview.
  4. Save the page with an appropriate edit summary.

Examples[మార్చు]

Fields[మార్చు]

All fields used by this template are optional. The following fields are available:

coordinates coordinates of the locality For coordinates, use {{coord}} with display=inline, title. Please do not be overly precise.
If the locator map function is being used, this may be omitted, as the template generates the {{coord}} string from the locator map parameters, in which case this field is overriden.
Example:
{{Coord|32|45|41.3|S|151|44|38.6|E|type:city_region:AU-NSW|display=inline,title}}
coord_type coordinates type override If the locator map is being used and the infobox is not being used for one of the standard types (city, suburb, town, lga or region), this field must be used to override the default type:city generated by the infobox. For valid inputs see Template:Coord#type:T.

Notes[మార్చు]

Type[మార్చు]

The infobox type affects the colour of the top bar of the infobox.

  • Yellow: city
  • Pink: suburb
  • Green: town
  • Blue: lga
  • Purple: region
  • Grey: undefined

Footnotes fields[మార్చు]

Any references should be placed within the respective "_footnotes" field and not within the field reserved solely for a numeric value. For example, place the reference used for the area of City X in the parameter {{{area_footnotes}}} and not in the {{{area}}} parameter. Otherwise, an error may result.

Unformatted numbers and expression errors[మార్చు]

Certain fields require numeric values to be entered in an unformatted/raw fashion—i.e. 1000.0 NOT 1,000.0. If an expression error is present, simply remove any commas or spaces from the number.

KML[మార్చు]

Setting |kml=yes enables the display of links to the popular web mapping services Google and Bing. However, in order for this to function a valid KML page must exist. As KML files cannot currently be uploaded, the text of those files must be copied into a Wikipedia page. By default, the infobox uses a file name with the same title as the article at the location Template:Infobox Australian place/KML/<place name> e.g. Raymond Terrace, New South Wales uses Template:Infobox Australian place/KML/Raymond Terrace, New South Wales. It is possible to use an alternate map by specifying the name of the map to be used in the kml_map parameter. A list of currently available maps may be found here. More pages may be available at Template:Attached KML. These need to be copied to the appropriate subpage for this infobox.

Dist#, Dir# and Location#[మార్చు]

This is the distance and approximate direction to another location. The '#' is replaced with a number between 1 and 5. Therefore distances for up to five locations can be listed using the range 'dist1' - 'dist5'. Direction from the locations can be specified use 'dir1' - 'dir5' and the locations can be listed as 'location1' - 'location5'. Each dist# must be partnered with an appropriate location#. Dir# is optional.

Where to find information[మార్చు]

Deprecated field tracking[మార్చు]

Articles that include deprecated fields are automatically added to Category:Australian place articles using missing parameters.

Microformat[మార్చు]

The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the place-name and location parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia, or via a browser tool operated by a person, to (for example) add the subject to an address book. Within the hCard is a Geo microformat, which additionally makes the coordinates (latitude & longitude) parsable, so that they can be, say, looked up on a map, or downloaded to a GPS unit. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

Sub-templates[మార్చు]

If the place or venue has an "established", "founded", "opened" or similar date, use {{start date}} unless the date is before 1583 CE.

If it has a URL, use {{URL}}.

Please do not remove instances of these sub-templates.

Classes[మార్చు]

hCard uses HTML classes including:

  • adr
  • agent
  • category
  • county-name
  • extended-address
  • fn
  • label
  • locality
  • nickname
  • note
  • org
  • region
  • street-address
  • uid
  • url
  • vcard

Geo is produced by calling {{coord}}, and uses HTML classes:

  • geo
  • latitude
  • longitude

Please do not rename or remove these classes nor collapse nested elements which use them.

Precision[మార్చు]

When giving coordinates, please use an appropriate level of precision. Do not use {{coord}}'s |name= parameter.
