• borough - this should be the lowest level of local government for the place where the station is situated.
  • For England, refer to the hierarchical list of regions, counties and districts, and use the entry in the rightmost column.
  • For Scotland, use the relevant council area
  • For Wales, use the relevant principal area

In each case, use a wikilink, piped where necessary in order to hide text like "Metropolitan Borough of ", " (district)", etc. Examples:

For images whose width/height ratio is between 2.65:1 and 3:1, set |imagesize=x100px ; for images whose width/height ratio exceeds 3:1, set |imagesize=300px ; and for upright images (width/height ratio less than 1:1), set |imagesize=x265px .

Note: latitude must be present if longitude is present, and vice versa, and they should have the same number of decimal places (trailing zeroes are significant). Three decimal places gives an accuracy of 111 metres (364 ft), and four decimal places gives an accuracy of 11 metres (36 ft), so greater precision is unnecessary for something as large as a railway station.

Microformats

The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the place-name and location parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia, or via a browser tool operated by a person, to (for example) add the subject to an address book. Within the hCard is a Geo microformat, which additionally makes the coordinates (latitude & longitude) parsable, so that they can be, say, looked up on a map, or downloaded to a GPS unit.
