 అంతర్జాతీయ ద్రవ్య నిధి(ఐ.ఎం.ఎఫ్) అనేది 188 దేశాలు కలసి ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా ప్రపంచ ద్రవ్య సహకారం ఏర్పరిచేందుకు, ఆర్థిక స్థిరత్వం కాపాడేందుకు, అంతర్జాతీయ వాణిజ్యం సులభతరం చేసేందుకు, అధిక ఉపాధిని ప్రోత్సహించి, పేదరికాన్ని తగ్గించేందుకు ఉద్దేశించి కలసిపనిచేస్తున్న అంతర్జాతీయ సంస్థ. వాషింగ్టన్, డి.సి.,లో అంతర్జాతీయ ద్రవ్యనిధి ప్రధాన కార్యాలయం వుంది.[1] 1944 లో బ్రిటన్ వూడ్స్ కా944లో బ్రెటన్ వూడ్స్ కాన్ఫరెన్స్ లో ఏర్పాటైంది. అధికారికంగా 29 సభ్య దేశాలలో అంతర్జాతీయ చెల్లింపు వ్యవస్థను పునర్నించే లక్ష్యంతో 1945 లో ఉనికిలోకి వచ్చింది. కోటా పద్ధతిలో దేశాలు ఈ ద్యవ్యనిధికి  ధనాన్ని  అందిస్తాయి. ఈ పద్ధతిలో ఏ దేశం వద్దైనా లేకుంటే అప్పుతెచ్చుకోవచ్చు. 2010 వరకూ, ఈ నిధిలో476.8 బిలియన్ ఎక్స్.డి.ఆర్, యూఎస్ డాలర్లు 755.7 బిలియన్లు కరెన్సీ ఎక్స్ ఛేంజ్ రేట్లకు ఉన్నాయి.[2]
