Usage

Use this Rcat template on mainspace redirects only.

• This redirect category (Rcat) template populates both the Surnames and Redirects from surnames categories. Add this Rcat to a redirect in the following manner:

#REDIRECT [[(Target page name)]] {{R from surname}}

This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.

• Template {{This is a redirect}} may also be used to add this and other appropriate Rcats to a redirect.
• Use this Rcat on any redirect from a surname. These redirects are used because Wikipedia may have only one biographical article of a person by a certain surname, or because one individual is ubiquitously known by a certain surname (other persons sharing this name might be listed at a primary topic disambiguation page).
• At some point in the future, Jimmy Wales wants to make a printed version of the full Wikipedia encyclopedia. Some Rcats will automatically place a redirect in either Category:Printworthy redirects or Category:Unprintworthy redirects. Other Rcats (like this one, for example) do not, which means that it is up to editors to choose which of those categories, Printworthy or Unprintworthy, is appropriate and should be populated. The Rcats that are used separately to populate those categories are:
