Purpose
[మార్చు]This template is used to tag redirects and to populate ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Printworthy redirects. It may sometimes be used as a default in other redirect category templates, which allows them to automatically populate the Printworthy category.
Usage
[మార్చు]- Use this redirect category (rcat) template for Main (article) namespace redirects that should be used in a print encyclopedia. While no full version of Wikipedia has yet been printed, there have been CD versions made that have used this tag to include such redirects. Add this rcat to a redirect in the following manner:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]] {{R printworthy}}
- This is in accord with instructions found at WP:REDCAT.
- Template {{This is a redirect}} may also be used to add this and up to seven appropriate rcats to a redirect.
- Redirects that should have this template include those redirects that represent genuine alternate names (such as Danzig). Do not use this rcat for redirects that are misspellings (such as Gdańk for Gdańsk), and confusing redirects created after page merges and moves also should not be included in print versions and should not use this template. Redirects that should not be used in a print encyclopedia ahould be tagged with {{R unprintworthy}} instead.

Printworthiness
[మార్చు]- In main-article namespace, many redirects are considered printworthy; however, there are many others that are thought to be unprintworthy, so there is often no default sort for printworthiness. At some point in the future, Jimmy Wales wants to make more printed versions of Wikipedia encyclopedia articles. Some rcats automatically populate either ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Printworthy redirects or ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Unprintworthy redirects by default. Others do not, and that means it is up to editors to choose which of those categories, Printworthy or Unprintworthy, is appropriate and should be populated.
- Template {{This is a redirect}} will accept these rcats just like any other.
- Examples:
{{Redr|from surname|from alternative name|printworthy}} and {{Redr|from move|from modification|from short name|unprintworthy}}
- Either {{This is a redirect}} or its alias/shortcut, {{Redr}}, may be used.
