మొగలికోడి ( Watercock ) ఒక నీటి పక్షి. దీని శాస్త్రీయ నామం గాలిక్రెక్స్ సినేరియా (Gallicrex cinerea). ఇవి రాలిడే (Rallidae) కుటుంబానికి చెందినవి. ఇవి గాలిక్రెక్స్ (Gallicrex) ప్రజాతికి చెందిన జీవులు[1].
భారతదేశం, పాకిస్తాన్, శ్రీలంక నుండి దక్షిణ చైనా, కొరియా, జపాన్, ఫిలిప్పీన్స్, ఇండోనేషియా వరకు దక్షిణ ఆసియా అంతటా చిత్తడి నేలలలో ఇవి ఉన్నాయి.అవి మార్ష్ వృక్షసంపదలో నేలమీద పొడి ప్రదేశంలో గూడు కట్టుకుని, 3-6 గుడ్లు పెడతాయి.
పెద్ద మగ మొగలి కోడి పొడవు 43 సెం.మీ (17 అంగుళాలు), బరువు 476–650 గ్రా (1.049–1.433 పౌండ్లు) [2]. ఇవి ప్రధానంగా ఎరుపు కాళ్ళు, బిల్, విస్తరించిన ఫ్రంటల్ షీల్డ్, కొమ్ములతో నలుపు-బూడిద రంగులో ఉంటాయి. యువ మగ పక్షులు తక్కువ రంగులో ఉంటాయి. పరిపక్వం చెందుతున్నప్పుడు నల్లబడతాయి.
