Rajender Velchala is an Indian politician, businessman, and social activist from the state of Telangana. He is the son of the late Velchala Jagapathi Rao, a prominent figure in Telangana's political history.

Education

Rajender Velchala completed his BA Honors in History from Ramjas College, Delhi University, between 1978 and 1981. He then pursued an MBA from Osmania University from 1981 to 1983.

Professional Career

Velchala is the Managing Director of Pochampad Construction Company Pvt. Ltd., which undertakes water supply and irrigation network contracts across India.

Political Career

Rajender Velchala began his political journey as a member of the Congress party. He served as the Joint Secretary, General Secretary, and Vice President of the Andhra Pradesh State Youth Congress between 1984 and 1989. In 1991, he was appointed as the Karimnagar Market Committee Chairman, a position he held until 1994. During this period, he also served as the General Secretary of the State Association of Market Committee Chamber.

In 2001, Velchala joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and served as the State General Secretary, in charge of youth affairs and student affairs, until 2004. He contested the 2004 Assembly elections as an independent candidate from the Choppadandi constituency, securing third place with 30,000 votes.

Velchala later joined the Praja Rajyam Party and served as the District President of Karimnagar from 2007 to 2009. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, he contested from the Karimnagar constituency and secured third place with 1,76,000 votes.

Family Background

Rajender Velchala comes from a family with a strong political background. His father, Velchala Jagapathi Rao, was a prominent figure in Telangana's political history. Jagapathi Rao served as the Sarpanch of Gundi Gopalraopet village, an MLA from Jagtial (1972-1978), an MLC from the Telangana Graduate Constituency (1978-1984), and an MLA from Karimnagar (1989-1994). He was also a member of the AICC, General Secretary of the APCC (1974-1978), Chairman of MARKFED for two terms, and the Convener of the All Party Telangana Legislative Forum (1991-1994).

Velchala's grandfather, Velchala Keshav Rao, was a freedom fighter, scholar, poet, and writer. He served as the District Congress Committee President of Karimnagar District in the 1950s.

Rajender Velchala has been actively involved in various social and developmental activities, carrying forward the legacy of his father and grandfather in serving the people of Telangana, particularly those in the Karimnagar region.
