Difference in Telugu and English URLs

Hi Satya I noticed that the URLs of similar pages in Telugu and English are not same. For example.. "Why create an account" page has its English version is at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Why_create_an_account?

whereas its Telugu version it is at

http://te.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:%E0%B0%85%E0%B0%95%E0%B1%8C%E0%B0%82%E0%B0%9F%E0%B1%81_%E0%B0%8E%E0%B0%82%E0%B0%A6%E0%B1%81%E0%B0%95%E0%B1%81_%E0%B0%B8%E0%B1%83%E0%B0%B7%E0%B1%8D%E0%B0%9F%E0%B0%BF%E0%B0%82%E0%B0%9A%E0%B1%81%E0%B0%95%E0%B1%8B%E0%B0%B5%E0%B0%BE%E0%B0%B2%E0%B0%BF%3F.

Why this difference? If I want to translate an English page, can't I simply create a new URL replacing the canonical name - en with te and start translating?

Did you notice it? (I think initially I translated into this page, but later I noticed that you already did some translation on the current page hence I added the balance to it. • No, you cannot do this as we want the title also to be telugu as far as possible.For doing this you have to create a translated title and then translate the text into it. You can leave the namespaces like Wikipedia: User: User_talk: in english for the wiki handling purposes.
• The link in samudaaya pandiri is a probably a carryover from the english wikipedia. I now fixed the link and also deleted the (telugu version of the article with english title) as you have updated the proper telugu article. so you see the new article empty.

Satya! How can I add new words in English--Telugu part of wiktionary that you recently created? Also if I start adding new words there, how to maintain the alphabetical order (of English words, obviously) automatically?(Chaduvari)

The links to the english alphabets are categories. so for now I would suggest starting a new word in your userpage but at the bottom of the new page write for example [[Category:A]] and when you are done you can remove the page link from your userpage. I think this is not a very straightfoward way but we think more about how to do it. see Example page "statistics" by clicking on S. --వైఙాసత్య 15:39, 11 August 2005 (UTC)

I think I was wrong.. they are not categories..but that is one other alternative way of indexing them. so as they are allpages indexes just start a newpage within your user page and make sure not to forget adding category to every page you create..that will make our life easier later.

Yes they have english titles and will stand out. I thought about changing them but I had a second thoughts that in a way having english titles will make it very easy for new users as most of these are targeted towards them..Anyways we'll keep them like that for now and in future we shall decide according to popular demand. I think this might cause confusion while naming the pages and the page links. There is a likelihood of translating the same page twice. I think, we should either use English or Telugu links everywhere (Chaduvari)

ok, we can go ahead and name everything in telugu. thats what we have been doing most of the time. Important caution is that namespaces like Wikipedia: and User: User_talk: should be left in english itself otherwise wiki software wont understand them (Important for handling different types of pages differently. if we rename Wikipedia:FAQ into Wikipedia:తరచూ అడిగే ప్రశ్నలు it is OK. But when it is changed into వికీపీడియా:తరచూ అడిగే ప్రశ్నలు then the software might think that it is just an ordinary article with a title "వికీపీడియా:తరచూ అడిగే ప్రశ్నలు" instead of understanding that it is a wikipedia namespace file with title "తరచూ అడిగే ప్రశ్నలు". The whole confusion is because in the beginning itself the namespace names in the software should have been translated into telugu. pretty confusing if you dint follow my explanation let me know --వైఙాసత్య 06:01, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

Yes, I am right that software doesnt treat వికీపీడియా: files as wikipedia namespace files. I made some mistakes too regarding this proof of which you can see in allpages in specialpages which shows some వికీపీడియా: files other wise it should not be displaying wikipedia namespace files in general allpages display --వైఙాసత్య 06:08, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

Let me check what I understood.. while translating "Wikipedia:Editing_FAQ" I should do it as "Wikipedia:diddubaaTu praSnalu" and not like "vikIpIDiyaa:diddubaaTu praSnalu", right? Also "Wikipedia:Editing_FAQ|Editing FAQs" should be translated as "Wikipedia:diddubaaTu praSnalu|diddubaaTu praSnalu". The restriction is only for Namespace. Am I correct?(Chaduvari)

పేజీ కి ఎడమ పక్కన ఉండే మార్గదర్శకము లో "విరాళములు" కు లింకు తప్పుగా ఉన్నట్లు ఉంది, మొదటి పేజీలో సముదాయ సమాచారము లోని విరాళాలు కు సరియైన లింకు ఉంది. మార్చాలనుకుంటా!
