హైబిస్కస్ (Hibiscus; pronounced /hɨˈbɪskəs/[2] or మూస:IPA-en[3]) వృక్షశాస్త్రంలో పుష్పించే మొక్కలలోని మాల్వేసి (Malvaceae) ప్రజాతి. ఇందులో సుమారు 200 పైగా జాతుల మొక్కలు ఉన్నాయి. హైబిస్కస్ పేరు గ్రీకు భాషలో ἱβίσκος (hibískos). ఇది Pedanius Dioscorides (ca. 40-90) Althaea officinalis అనే మొక్కకి పెట్టినది.[4]

ఉష్ణ మండలంలో పెరిగే హైబిస్కస్ ఎక్కువగా అందమైన పుష్పాల కోసం పెంచుతారు. దీనికి చెందిన మందార (H. rosa-sinensis) లో చాలా రకాల సంకర జాతులు ప్రసిద్ధిచెందాయి. దీనిలో సుమారు 200-220 జాతులున్నాయి.
