Usage

Use this rcat template in any namespace.

• This redirect category (rcat) template populates ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Redirects from short names. Add this rcat to a redirect page in the following manner:

#REDIRECT [[(target page name)]]

• Template {{This is a redirect}} may also be used to add up to seven appropriate rcats to a redirect. For more information see the template documentation and its comparison page. Use it to tag a redirect in the following manner:

#REDIRECT [[(target page name)]]

Note: {{Redr}} is an alias for the This is a redirect template.

This is in accord with instructions found at WP:REDCAT.

• Use this rcat for a title that is a shortened form of a full article title or a shorter form of a person's full name. Also use for incomplete names and titles, such as "East End".
• For abbreviations and initialisms, such as "UN", use {{R from initialism}} instead (unless the initials redirect to a person's name – then use this template, R from short name).

Printworthiness

• In main-article namespace, many shorter-named redirects to longer-named titles are considered unprintworthy; however, there are many others that are thought to be printworthy, so there is no default sort for printworthiness. At some point in the future, Jimmy Wales wants to make more printed versions of Wikipedia encyclopedia articles. Some rcats automatically populate either ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Printworthy redirects or ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Unprintworthy redirects by default. Others, like this rcat, do not, and that means it is up to editors to choose which of those categories, Printworthy or Unprintworthy, is appropriate and should be populated. The rcats that are used separately to populate those categories are:

• {{R unprintworthy}}
