వసంత్ కుమార్ బావ (వీకే బావ), విశ్రాంత ఐఏఎస్‌, చరిత్రకారుడు, రచయిత. హైదరాబాద్ చరిత్ర, వారసత్వ కట్టడాల పరిరక్షణోద్యమానికి ఆద్యుడిగా పేరొందిన ఈయన అంతర్జాతీయ చరిత్ర పరిశోధకులకు సైతం సుపరిచితుడు.[1]
జీవిత విషయాలు[మార్చు]
పంజాబ్‌లోని ఫిరోజ్‌పూర్‌ ప్రాంతానికి చెందిన వీకే బావ, తన 60 ఏళ్ళ వయసులో అవ్‌ధీశ్ రాణి (ప్రముఖ స్వాతంత్య్ర సమరయోధుడు రాజ్ బహదూర్ గౌర్ సోదరి)ని ప్రేమించి వివాహం చేసుకున్నాడు.
వృత్తి జీవితం[మార్చు]
1954 ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ కేడర్‌కు చెందిన ఐఏఎస్‌ అధికారి వీకే బావ ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ రాష్ట్ర ఆర్కైవ్స్ సంచాలకుడిగా పనిచేశాడు. 1960లలో హైదరాబాద్ జిల్లా కలెక్టరుగా బాధ్యతలు నిర్వర్తించాడు. ఆ తరువాత విశాఖపట్నం పట్టణాభివృద్ధి ప్రాజెక్టు డైరెక్టర్‌గా, హుడా వ్యవస్థాపక వైస్‌ చైర్మన్‌గా పనిచేశాడు. 1979లో ఫోర్ట్‌ ఫౌండేషన్‌ ద్వారా హైదరాబాదు నగరంలోని వారసత్వ కట్టడాలపై అధ్యయనం చేయించాడు. హుడా చట్టంలోని నిబంధనల ప్రకారం 138 భవనాలను వారసత్వ భవనాలుగా ప్రకటించాడు. తర్వాత అదే హుడా వారసత్వ కట్టడాల జాబితా రూపకల్పనకూ ఆధారమైంది.[2]
రచనా ప్రస్థానం[మార్చు]
రాష్ట్ర ఆర్కైవ్స్ డైరెక్టర్ గా ఉన్న కాలంలో పురాతన గ్రంథాలను, పత్రాలను పరిశోధించి పలు రచనలు చేశాడు.[3] 1980లో పదవీ విరమణ అనంతరం పర్యావరణ పరిరక్షణ ఉద్యమంలోనూ చురుగ్గా పాల్గొన్నాడు. కొంతకాలం ఇండియన్ కౌన్సిల్‌ ఆఫ్‌ హిస్టారికల్‌ రీసెర్చి సీనియర్‌ ఫెలోగా ఉన్నాడు. హైదరాబాద్ చరిత్ర మీద మక్కువతో అనేక పరిశోధనాత్మక వ్యాసాలు రాశాడు. డెక్కన్ జర్నల్ కు ఎగ్జిక్యూటివ్ ఎడిటర్ గా కూడా పనిచేశాడు.[4]

మరణం[మార్చు]
కొంతకాలంగా అనారోగ్యంతో బాధపడిన వసంత్ కుమార్ తన 93 ఏళ్ళ వయసులో 2023, జనవరి 9న ఉదయం బంజారాహిల్స్‌లోని తన స్వగృహంలో మరణించాడు. క్రైస్తవ మతారాధకుడైన వసంత్ కుమార్ చివరి కోరిక మేరకు అతని భౌతికకాయం గాంధీ వైద్య కళాశాలకు అందజేయబడింది.[19]
