కె. ఎస్. నాగరత్నమ్మ (1923-1993 అక్టోబరు 17) దక్షిణాది రాష్ట్రమైన కర్ణాటక చెందిన భారతీయ రాజకీయవేత్త. ఆమె కర్ణాటక శాసనసభ సభ్యురాలిగా గుండ్లుపేట నియోజకవర్గం నుండి ఏడుసార్లు ఎన్నికయ్యింది. ఆమె 1972 నుండి 1978 వరకు కర్ణాటక శాసనసభకు, పూర్వపు మైసూరు శాసనసభకు మొదటి మహిళా స్పీకర్.
రాజకీయ జీవితం
[మార్చు]రాజకీయాల్లోకి రాకముందు, నాగరత్నమ్మ భారత్ స్కౌట్స్ అండ్ గైడ్స్ ఉపాధ్యక్షురాలు, మైసూరు విశ్వవిద్యాలయం సెనేట్ సభ్యురాలు.[1] 1957లో గుండ్లుపేట నియోజకవర్గం ఏర్పడినప్పుడు, ఆమె స్వతంత్ర రాజకీయవేత్త మైసూర్ శాసనసభ ఎన్నికల్లో పోటీ చేసి, ఆమె ఏకైక ప్రత్యర్థి భారత జాతీయ కాంగ్రెస్ చెందిన హెచ్. కె. శివరుద్రప్పపై విజయం సాధించింది.[2] తద్వారా ఆమె నియోజకవర్గానికి తొలి ఎమ్మెల్యే అయ్యింది. ఆమె మళ్లీ 1962 ఎన్నికలలో శివరుద్రప్పను ఓడించింది.[3] ఆమె 1967 ఎన్నికలలో భారత జాతీయ కాంగ్రెస్ సభ్యురాలిగా పోటీ చేసి, కె. బి. జయదేవప్పను 21,423 ఓట్ల భారీ తేడాతో ఓడించింది.[4]
1972 ఎన్నికలలో భారత జాతీయ కాంగ్రెస్ (ఆర్గనైజేషన్) కు చెందిన బి. బసప్పను ఓడించి, నాలుగోసారి నాగరత్నమ్మ ఈ నియోజకవర్గాన్ని నిలుపుకుంది.[5] ఆమె 1972 నుండి 1978 వరకు అసెంబ్లీ స్పీకర్ గా ఎన్నికయ్యింది, సభ మొదటి మహిళా స్పీకర్ అయ్యింది.[1][6] 1978 ఎన్నికలలో ఆమె దీర్ఘకాల పోటీదారు అయిన శివరుద్రప్ప 271 ఓట్ల తేడాతో విజయం సాధించింది.[7]
1983 ఎన్నికలలో ఆమె జనతా పార్టీ చెందిన హెచ్. ఎన్. శ్రీకాంత సెట్టీని ఓడించి 44,085 ఓట్లు సాధించి తిరిగి కాంగ్రెస్ సభ్యురాలిగా తన స్థానాన్ని నిలుపుకుంది.[8] 1985 ఎన్నికలలో ఆమె జనతా పార్టీ చెందిన హెచ్. ఎస్. మహాదేవ ప్రసాద్ 19,140 ఓట్ల భారీ తేడాతో ఓడించింది.[9] 1989 ఎన్నికలలో ఆమె మళ్లీ ప్రసాద్ ను ఓడించి 50,643 ఓట్లు గెలుచుకుంది.[10] ఆ తరువాత ఆమె 1990లో ఆరోగ్య, కుటుంబ సంక్షేమ శాఖ మంత్రిగా చేసింది.[1] ఆమె 1993లో మరణించింది.[11] ప్రతిపక్ష నాయకురాలిగా కూడా పనిచేసిన నాగరత్నమ్మ, సభ స్పీకర్ గా చేసిన కృషికి, ప్రతిపక్ష నాయకురాలిగా ఆమె పని శైలికి ప్రశంసలు అందుకుంది.[12]
