ప్రేమ్ చంద్ పాండే భారతీయ అంతరిక్ష శాస్త్రవేత్త, గ్రహ శాస్త్రవేత్త. శాటిలైట్ ఓషనోగ్రఫీ, రిమోట్ సెన్సింగ్, వాతావరణ శాస్త్రం, అంటార్కిటిక్, వాతావరణ మార్పు రంగాలలో విద్యావేత్త.[1] నేషనల్ సెంటర్ ఫర్ పోలార్ అండ్ ఓషన్ రీసెర్చ్ కు వ్యవస్థాపక డైరెక్టరు.

విద్య, వృత్తి

పాండే అలహాబాద్ విశ్వవిద్యాలయం నుండి ఎలక్ట్రానిక్స్, సైన్స్‌ లలో మాస్టర్స్, బ్యాచిలర్స్ డిగ్రీలు పొందాడు. 1972 లో అదే విశ్వవిద్యాలయం[2][3] నుండి డి.ఫిల్ (మైక్రోవేవ్‌లపై) చేసాడు.[4]

1966లో పాండే ఆజంగఢ్‌ లోని డిఎవి డిగ్రీ కళాశాలలో లెక్చరరుగా చేరాడు. 1968 నుండి 1972 వరకు ఆయన అలహాబాద్ విశ్వవిద్యాలయం భౌతికశాస్త్ర విభాగపు మైక్రోవేవ్ పరిశోధనా ప్రయోగశాలలో కౌన్సిల్ ఆఫ్ సైంటిఫిక్ అండ్ ఇండస్ట్రియల్ రీసెర్చ్ రీసెర్చ్ ఫెలోగా, 1973 నుండి 1977 వరకు ఖడక్‌వాస్లా లోని సెంట్రల్ వాటర్ అండ్ పవర్ రీసెర్చ్ స్టేషన్‌లో పరిశోధనా అధికారిగా పనిచేశాడు. 1977లో ఆయన అహ్మదాబాదులో ఇస్రోవారి స్పేస్ అప్లికేషన్స్ సెంటర్‌లో చేరి ఓషియానిక్ సైన్సెస్ డివిజన్/మెటియోరాలజీ అండ్ ఓషియానోగ్రఫీ గ్రూప్/రిమోట్ సెన్సింగ్ అప్లికేషన్స్ ఏరియా (ఓఎస్డీ/ఎంఓజీ/రెసా) వ్యవస్థాపక అధిపతి అయ్యాడు. తరువాతి ఇరవై సంవత్సరాలు ఆయన ఎస్.ఏ.సి. లో పనిచేశాడు. 1980 లలో ఆయన నాసా-జెట్ ప్రొపల్షన్ లాబొరేటరీ, పసడేనా లోని పరిశోధనా సహచరుడిగా కూడా పనిచేశారు, అక్కడ ఆయన ఎగువ వాతావరణ పరిశోధన ఉపగ్రహం, సీశాట్ కార్యక్రమాలపై పనిచేశాడు.[5] 1997-2005 సమయంలో, అతను నేషనల్ సెంటర్ ఫర్ పోలార్ అండ్ ఓషన్ రీసెర్చ్ (NCPOR/మినిస్ట్రీ ఆఫ్ ఎర్త్ సైన్సెస్ (MoES) గోవా వ్యవస్థాపక డైరెక్టరుగా ఉన్నాడు.[6]

మురళీ మనోహర్ జోషి చొరవతో ఆయన అలహాబాద్ విశ్వవిద్యాలయంలో వాతావరణ, మహాసముద్ర శాస్త్ర అధ్యయనాల కోసం, కె. బెనర్జీ సెంటర్ ఆఫ్ అట్మాస్ఫియరిక్ అండ్ ఓషన్ స్టడీస్ (కెబిసిఎఒఎస్) ను స్థాపించాడు. ఇది ఇప్పుడు అలహాబాద్ యూనివర్సిటీకి పూర్తి స్థాయి అధ్యాపక విద్యా కేంద్రంగా మారింది.[7][8][9][10][11] అతను 2005 నుండి 2007 వరకు సెంటర్ ఫర్ ఓషన్, రివర్, అట్మాస్ఫియర్ అండ్ ల్యాండ్ సైన్సెస్ (CORAL) లో విజిటింగ్ ప్రొఫెసరుగా, తరువాత 2007 నుండి ఆగస్టు 2011 వరకు ఐఐటి ఖరగ్‌పూర్‌లో (IIT-Kgp), ఎమెరిటస్ ప్రొఫెసరుగానూ ఉన్నాడు. CORAL స్థాపనలో కీలక పాత్ర పోషించాడు.[12]

డాక్టర్ పాండే 2011 సెప్టెంబరు 1 నుండి ఐఐటి భువనేశ్వర్‌లో స్కూల్ ఆఫ్ ఎర్త్, ఓషన్ అండ్ క్లైమేట్ సైన్సెస్‌లో ప్రొఫెసరుగా చేరాడు.[13][14][15][16] స్కూల్ ఆఫ్ ఎర్త్, ఓషన్ అండ్ క్లైమేట్ సైన్సెస్ సంతృప్తికరంగా అభివృద్ధి చెందాక, డాక్టర్ పాండే ఐఐటి ఖరగ్పూర్ (ఐఐటి-కెజిపి) కు తిరిగి వచ్చి 2017 నవంబరు 20 నుండి 2020 నవంబరు 25 వరకు ఎమెరిటస్ ప్రొఫెసరుగా పనిచేశాడు.[17] 2021 జనవరి 1 నుండి ఐఐటి గాంధీనగర్లోని ఎర్త్ సైన్సెస్ విభాగంలో అనుబంధ ప్రొఫెసరుగా పనిచేస్తున్నాడు.[18]
