1972 మార్చిలో మహారాష్ట్ర నాల్గవ శాసనసభ కొరకు 1972 మహారాష్ట్ర శాసనసభ ఎన్నికలు జరిగాయి. మొత్తం 270 స్థానాల్లో పోటీ జరిగింది.[1]భారత జాతీయ కాంగ్రెస్ మెజారిటీ స్థానాలను గెలుచుకుంది. ముఖ్యమంత్రి వసంతరావు నాయక్ మళ్లీ ముఖ్యమంత్రిగా ఎన్నికయ్యాడు. శాసనసభ స్పీకర్‌గా ఎస్‌కే వాంఖడే, డిప్యూటీ స్పీకర్‌గా రామకృష్ణ వ్యంకటేష్‌ ఎన్నికయ్యారు. దినకర్ బాలు పాటిల్ ప్రతిపక్ష నేత అయ్యాడు.[2]
