మాంబళం రైల్వే స్టేషను చెన్నై సబర్బన్ రైల్వే నెట్వర్క్ లోని చెన్నై బీచ్ - చెంగల్పట్టు సెక్షన్ లోని రైల్వే స్టేషన్లలో ఒకటి. ఇది మాంబళం పశ్చిమం, టి.నగర్ యొక్క పొరుగున, పరిసర ప్రాంతాలలోని ప్రజలకు సేవలు అందిస్తున్నది. ఇది చెన్నై బీచ్ నుండి సుమారు 11 కి.మీ.ల దూరంలో, సముద్ర స్థాయికి 13 మీటర్ల పైన ఎత్తులో ఉంది .

చరిత్ర[మార్చు]
కాంచీపురం (కంచి) మార్గము మద్రాసు ఎగ్మోర్ నకు కలుపుతూ (కనెక్ట్) సబర్బన్ రైల్వే సర్వీస్ 1911 సం.లో తెరిచినప్పుడు మాంబళంలోని రైల్వే స్టేషన్‌ను నిర్మించింది. మద్రాస్ బీచ్, తాంబరం మధ్య శివారు సేవ 1931 మే 11 సం.లో ప్రారంభమైంది, ఈ విషయంలో, రెండు రైల్వే ట్రాక్లు 1931 నవంబరు 15 ద్వారా విద్యుద్దీకరణ జరిగింది.[2]ఈ విభాగం 1967 జనవరి 15 న 25 కెవి ఎసి ట్రాక్షన్‌గా మార్చబడింది.[3]

About 19 express and passenger trains pass through the station.[4]
Mambalam railway station is one of the busiest stations in the city and handles over 200,000 passenger daily, with more than 1,000 passengers an hour.[5] The parking lot at the station has a capacity to accommodate around 500 to 600 two-wheelers and around 200 bicycles.[6]
The station has a footbridge descending into Ranganathan Street at the southern end of the station.[7] However, following a demand,[5][7] a second footbridge was built in 2014 at the northern end.[8]
The passenger reservation system (PRS) centre at the station caters to residents of the neighbourhoods including T. Nagar, West Mambalam, Kodambakkam, and Vadapalani. It is a major railway ticket-booking centre after Moore Market Complex and Tambaram. It has 10 counters for booking tickets and another counter for enquiries, and sells around 2,500 tickets daily.[9]
రక్షణ[మార్చు]
The station is covered by the ₹ 400-million Integrated Security Surveillance System (ISSS) project implemented in 2012. The project, implemented jointly by the Southern Railways and HCL Infosystems, includes installation of CCTV cameras that would record visuals around the clock and store the data for 30 days, with the footage transmitted and stored using an Internet Protocol system.[10]
