ఇది మంచి ఆలోచన. ఇదివరకు సైడ్‌బార్ నుంచి వర్తమాన అంశాలకు లింకుకూడా ఉండేది. 2008, 2009లలో నేను ప్రతిరోజూ వార్తలను చేర్చేవాడిని (చూడండి: జూన్ 2008). పాఠకుల నుంచి దానికి మంచి స్పందన (హిట్లు) వచ్చేది. ఎవరైనా నిర్వహిస్తారంటే దీనికి మొదటిపేజీలో పెట్టేబదులు ఇదివరకు ఉన్నట్లుగా ప్రత్యేక పేజీ పెట్టడమే మంచిది. సి. చంద్ర కాంత రావు- చర్చ 17:51, 26 జూలై 2012 (UTC)

సైడ్ బార్లో కన్నా మొదటి పేజీలోనైతేనే అందరి దృష్టిని ఆకర్షిస్తుంది. ఇంత అనుభవం ఉన్న మీరే దీనిని నిర్వహిస్తే బాగుంటుంది. ఇది వారానికి మారుస్తూ ఉంటే కొంతకాలానికి ఒక నిధిలాగా ఉపయోగపడుతుంది. వీటి నుండి ప్రస్తుతం ఉన్న వికీపేజీలకు అంతర్వికీ లింకులిస్తే కొందరిని వికీపేజీల విస్తరణకు ఉత్సాహం చూపవచ్చును. ఇది రోజూ కాకుండా వారం వారం మారిస్తే నిర్వహకుల మీద ఒత్తిడి ఎక్కువగా ఉండదు.Rajasekhar1961 (చర్చ) 08:27, 27 జూలై 2012 (UTC)

వర్తమాన ఘటనలు నిర్వహణ చరిత్రలో ఈరోజు నిర్వహణకి ఉపకరిస్తుంది. ఇంకొక ఆలోచన వార్తాపత్రికలలో చాలాసార్లు వార్త వుంటుంది కాని దాని నేపధ్యం గురించి పూర్తి సమాచారం వుండదు. ఉదాహరణకి ఇటీవల లక్షింపేట ఘటన గురించి వార్తలు వస్తుంటాయి కాని దాని నేపధ్యం ఎప్పుడో పాతపేపరులో వుంటుంది తప్ప ఇంటర్నెట్ లో అందుబాటులో వుండదు. అటువంటి వాటిని గురించి రాసి, మొదటి పేజీలో ఇంకొక పెట్టె ద్వారా చేరిస్తే , చాలా మందికి వికీపీడియా ఉపయోగపడుతుంది. --అర్జున (చర్చ) 13:55, 27 జూలై 2012 (UTC)

విక్షరీ లో వ్రాయడం గురించి

జాతీయాలు, సామెతలు గురించి

ఈ జాతీయాలు, సామెతలు కాలానుగుణంగా మారుతుంటాయి. సమాజంలో వాటంతట అవే పుట్టుకొస్తుంటాయి. పాతవి చాల వరకు ఇంకా జనాధరణకు నోచుకొంటున్నాయి. కారణమేమంటే అవి ఈ కాలానికి కూడ సరిపోతున్నవి. కాని కొన్ని జాతీయాలు గాని, సామెతలు గాని కొన్ని కులాలకు సంబందించినవి కొన్ని వర్గాలకు చెందినవి కొన్ని వుంటాయి. అవి ఈ కాలానికి అబ్యంతరకరమైనవి. కనుక గతంలో ఎవరో కూర్చిన వాటిని ఎత్తి వ్రాయడం కంటే.... ప్రస్తుత కాలంలో వాడుకలో వున్న వాటిని మన వారు వ్రాస్తే బాగుంటుందని నా అభిప్రాయము.Bhaskaranaidu (చర్చ) 09:23, 5 ఆగష్టు 2012 (UTC)

జాతీయాలు, సామెతలు కొన్ని ప్రాంతాలలో కొన్ని వాడుకలో ఉంటాయి. ఇప్పుడు వాడటం లేదు అని లేదు. మనకు అన్ని ప్రాంతాల గురించి తెలియదు కనుక వాటిని వ్రాయడం వలన ఇప్పటి తరాల వారికి తెలియడం జరుగుతుంది. అందువలన ఉన్నంత వరకూ గుర్తున్నంతవరకూ అన్నిటినీ వ్రాయాలి.విశ్వనాధ్ (చర్చ) 12:02, 5 ఆగష్టు 2012 (UTC)

==సామెతలు.... జాతీయాలు కొత్తవా.... పాతవా.... అని విభజన అనవసరం. నా ప్రశ్న కేవలం కొన్ని కులాలు, జాతుల గురించి కొన్ని అసంజసంగా వున్న వాటిని ఇప్పుడు ఈనాటికి కాలాను గుణంగా... ప్రస్తావించ నవసరం లేదని మాత్రమె. విశ్వనాధం గారు బాగానె స్పందించి నట్టున్నారు. గత కొన్ని రోజులుగా నేను జాతీయాలు, సామెతలు మీత కేంద్రీకరించాను ప్రముఖులు గమనించె వుంటారు. అసలు విషయమేమంటే........................ 1. సామెతలలో కొన్ని జాతీయాలు కూడ కలిసి వున్నాయి. కొందరికి వాటి మద్య వున్న తేడా తెలియకున్నది. లేదా సాంకేతిక అవగాహన లేక వాటిని ఎక్కడ చేర్చాలో ( నాలాగ) తెలియక చేర్చినట్టున్నారు. దీన్ని ప్రధాన వికిపీడియన్లు సవరించ వలసి వున్నది. అనగా సామెతలలో వున్న జాతీయాలను.... జాతీయాల వర్గంలో చేర్చాలి. ఈ పని వారు చేస్తేనె బాగుంటుంది. 2. కొన్నింటికి వివరణ అసందర్బంగా వున్నది. దానిని వ్రాసిన వారిని నేంను తప్పుబట్టను. కాని నాకు సరైనదని అనిపించిన దానిని కొన్నింటిలో బ్రాకెట్టులో వ్రాశాను. అంతేగాని ముందున్న దానిని తొలిగించ లేదు. నేను ఎవరి రచనలు తొలిగించను మార్పు చేయను. ఒక విషయంలో ఎవరి ఉద్దేశం వారిది. ముఖ్యంగా ఈ సామెతలు, జాతీయాలు లాంటి వాటిలో ఈ సమస్య తప్పని సరి. ఎందు కంటే జాతీయాలు, సామెతలు స్వయం ప్రభోదకాలె. వాటిని అక్షరాశ్యులైనా, నిరక్షరాశ్యులైనా అతి సులబంగా అవగాహన చేసుకోగలరు. కాని కొన్ని సామెతలు/జాతీయాలు వీటిపై కొంచెం ప్రత్యెక శ్రద్ద వహించ వలసి వున్నది. 3. భాష పై మంచి పట్టు వున్న వారు మాత్రమె ఈ విషయంలో చొరవగా కల్పించుకొని దిద్దు బాటు చేయగలరు. ఈ విషయమై సదరు వ్వక్తులు తగు విదంగా స్పందిస్తారని ఆసిస్తున్నాను. 4. ఇప్పటికి జాతీయాలు, సామెతలు విషయంలో యాబై శాతంకన్న ఎక్కువగా వ్రాశారని నాకనిపిస్తున్నది. ఇది ఎప్పటికి నిరంతరాయంగా కొనసాగె కార్య క్రమం గనుక (తెవికిలో అన్నిం విషయాలలో) ఇక్కడి ఆపాలని లేదు గాని..... ఇప్పటికున్న వాటిని ఆక్షర క్రమంలో తెలిసిన వారు పెట్టితె బాగుండును గదా...../ 5. ప్రస్తుతం అక్షర క్రమం అక్కడక్కడా తప్పుగా వున్నది. (సామెతలలో జాతీయాలు కలిసి వున్నందున) దాన్ని సరిచేస్తే తర్వాత కొత్తగా చేర్చె వారు తదనుగుణంగా అక్షర క్రమంలో చేరుస్తారు. ప్రధాన తెవికి సభ్యులకు శ్రమ తగ్గుతుంది. నిజార్థముతో వున్న జాతీయాలు

సామెతలు విషయం ఇంచు మించు అందరికి తెలిసినవే..... జాతీయాలు..... అంటే కొంత మందికి తెలియక పోవచ్చు. ఈ రెండు భాషకు మణిభూషణాల వంటివి. ముఖ్యంగా జాతీయాలు ఒక్కటిటి కూడ లేకుండా పండితులు గాని పామరులు గాని పట్టుమని పది నిముషాలు కూడ మాట్లాడలేరు. అది జాతీయాల స్థాయి జాతీయాలు అనగా నిర్వచనమేమి? అన్నింటికి నిర్వచనాలు అనేకం వున్నట్టే దీనికి వుండొచ్చు. జాతీయాలను కూలంతషంగా పరిశీలిస్తే....... అందరికి అర్థమయ్యే విషయం ఒకటుంది. అది ఏమంటే? జాతీయాలకు రెండు అర్థాలుంటాయి. ఒకటి నిజార్థం. రెండోది గూడార్థం. ఇ గూడార్థంతోనే జాయాలు ఏర్పడతయి. నిజార్థంతో సంబందం లేదు. జాతీయాన్ని నిజార్థంతోనే వాడితే అది జాతీయం కాదు. దనికున్న గూడార్థంలోనే ఆ మాటను ప్రయోగించాలి. అప్పుడే ఆ భావానికి భలం చేకూరుతుంది. ఉదాహరణకు చూడండి. చెవిన ఇల్లు కట్టుకొని చెప్పాను... విన్నాడా?' ఇది ఒక జాతీయము. దీని నిజార్థం చెవిలో ఇల్లు కట్టు కోవడం. ఈ అర్థం అసంజసంగా వుంటుంది. గూడార్థం.: నీకు చాల సార్లు చెప్పాను విన్నావా అని అర్థం. ఇంకో ఉదాహరణ చూదాం: పప్పులో కలేశాడు అంటుంటారు. ఎవరైనా తప్పు చేస్తే ఈ మాట వాడతారు. ఆ మాటకు నిజార్థం ఇక్కడ అనవసరం. ఈ విషయం పండితులకు కూడ చెప్ప నవసరం లేదు. మరొక ఉదాహరణ: నక్కతోక తొక్కి వచ్చాడు అంటుంటారు. ..... ఈ విధంగా జాతీయం అనబడే మాటకు అసలు అర్థం కాక దాని గూడార్థంలోనే దాని ఉపయోగమున్నది. మనం వ్ర్ఫాస్తున్న జాతీయాలకు .... కొన్నింటికి అసలు అర్థంతో కొన్ని వున్నాయి. అలా వుండ కూడదని నా అభిప్రాయము. సాహిత్య వేత్తలు ఈ విషయంలో తగు చూచనలు ఇవ్వగలరని నా మనవి. తదనుగుణంగా వాటిని మార్పు చేయగల వారు చేస్తే బాగుంటుందని నా అభిప్రాయం. Wikidata is getting close to a first roll-out

As some of you might already have heard Wikimedia Deutschland is working on a new Wikimedia project. It is called m:Wikidata. The goal of Wikidata is to become a central data repository for the Wikipedias, its sister projects and the world. In the future it will hold data like the number of inhabitants of a country, the date of birth of a famous person or the length of a river. These can then be used in all Wikimedia projects and outside of them.

The project is divided into three phases and "we are getting close to roll-out the first phase". The phases are:

1. language links in the Wikipedias (making it possible to store the links between the language editions of an article just once in Wikidata instead of in each linked article)
2. infoboxes (making it possible to store the data that is currently in infoboxes in one central place and share the data)
3. lists (making it possible to create lists and similar things based on queries to Wikidata so they update automatically when new data is added or modified)

It'd be great if you could join us, test the demo version, provide feedback and take part in the development of Wikidata. You can find all the relevant information including an FAQ and sign-up links for our on-wiki newsletter on the Wikidata page on Meta.

Fundraising localization: volunteers from outside the USA needed

Please translate for your local community

Hello All,

The Wikimedia Foundation's Fundraising team have begun our 'User Experience' project, with the goal of understanding the donation experience in different countries outside the USA and enhancing the localization of our donation pages. I am searching for volunteers to spend 30 minutes on a Skype chat with me, reviewing their own country's donation pages. It will be done on a 'usability' format (I will ask you to read the text and go through the donation flow) and will be asking your feedback in the meanwhile.

The only pre-requisite is for the volunteer to actually live in the country and to have access to at least one donation method that we offer for that country (mainly credit/debit card, but also real-time banking like IDEAL, E-wallets, etc...) so we can do a live test and see if the donation goes through. All volunteers will be reimbursed of the donations that eventually succeed (and they will be low amounts, like 1-2 dollars)

By helping us you are actually helping thousands of people to support our mission of free knowledge across the world. Small new feature

Apologies for using English, but a translation wasn't done in time.

This is an announcement about a small new feature, which was recently enabled on 17 other Wikipedias, including English. After fixes there, we are ready to expand to other projects where the feature is localized, including this one.

The feature is a confirmation message (see screenshot) that appears after you save an edit. It tells people that "Your edit was saved." It fades away automatically after two seconds, and can be removed immediately with a button ("x"). It was created by the Editor Engagement Experiments team, and tested with new users on the English Wikipedia. We saw very positive results: edits by new contributors increased 23% with a confirmation like this, with no decrease in quality.

If you don't want to see this feature at all, you can hide it in your personal CSS. Simply add the code below to Special:MyPage/common.css:
